William Jason Fields, known as “Honest Bill from Olive Hill,” was the 34th Governor of Kentucky from 1923 to 1927. He promoted Kentucky’s first grant of Federal aid for road construction, the consolidation of schools, and teacher-training colleges at Murray and Morehead. He also served in the U.S. Congress from 1911 to 1923 and as Commonwealth Attorney from 1932 to 1933. Born in Carter County in 1874, he died there in 1954 and was buried in Olive Hill.
