Henry Stanbery lived at this site from 1857 to 1881. Born in New York in 1803, he became the first Attorney-General of Ohio, serving from 1846 to 1851, and was a member of the Ohio Constitutional Convention of 1850. He served as Attorney-General of the U.S. from 1866 to 1868, then resigned to become one of counsel for President Andrew Johnson in his impeachment trial before the U.S. Senate in 1868. Johnson reappointed him, but the Senate refused to confirm him. Stanbery resumed the practice of law in Cincinnati in 1868 and was buried there in 1881.
