Dr. Thomas Walker State Historic Site
History
About six miles southeast of Barbourville, Kentucky, this historic park preserves the site associated with physician and frontier explorer Thomas Walker, who built a cabin there in 1750. The place is remembered as the location of the first house in Kentucky, giving it an important place in the state's early history. Although the original cabin no longer survives, a representative replica stands on the spot and can be toured. The land was donated by the American Legion and the people of Barbourville, and the site was formally dedicated in 1931.
