Mound City honored its 468 men enlisted for World War 1917-1918 and held in reverent memory those killed in action: Frank Cannon, Barney Crouch, Elijah Duckworth, Orin Koonce, Boyd Metcalf, Louis Phares, John Miller, Ray Rhymer, Virgil Taylor, Otis Turbaville, Loren Lence, and Dave Fitzpatrick; and those deceased in service: Sherman Bell, Stephan Carney, Chas. Crippen, Floyd Derr, Geo. Lampley, Robt. Meals, Roy Morkert, Henry Reese, Geo. Ross, Ralph Vick, Nelson Willis, Thos. Price, and Silas Moore. The tribute was dedicated to them on Nov. 11, 1923, by the Pulaski County Memorial Association with the words, “Let us have peace.”
