Adam Lawrence (1799-1878), a pioneer farmer and cattle raiser born in Kentucky, received a Texas land grant in 1822 and donated this tract in 1840. He fought in the Texas Revolution in 1836 and in many Indian battles. On one occasion, he jumped his horse 20 feet into the river below to evade a war party.
