Boyd's Windmill is a historic smock mill in Middletown, Rhode Island, and one of only two surviving historic windmills on Aquidneck Island, where more than thirty once stood. Built in 1810 by John Peterson in Portsmouth, it was bought in 1815 by William Boyd, whose family name it retained. The timber-frame, octagonal mill originally used four sails, later expanded to eight, with granite grindstones inside. In 1916 Benjamin Boyd replaced wind power with a gasoline engine. Donated to the Middletown Historical Society in 1990, it was restored and moved to Paradise Valley Park. It later became a local emblem and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
