Hyannis Rear Range Light, also called Hyannis Harbor Light, was a small lighthouse built in 1849 near Hyannis Harbor to help guide vessels to the harbor wharf. Unlike coastal lights marking open shoreline, it served as a rear range light, and after a front range light was added in 1885 on the Old Colony Railroad Wharf, the pair directed ships to a 300-foot wharf busy with coal, lumber, grain, and fish shipments. As deeper channels shifted traffic toward Hyannis inner harbor, the lights were discontinued in 1929. Privately owned today, the surviving tower remains a reminder of Hyannis’s railroad and shipping era.
