The site now occupied by the South San Francisco BART Station was once Cuneo's Farm and Produce Market, owned and operated by Giuseppe Cuneo, Idolina Cuneo, and their family. Giuseppe and Idolina immigrated from Italy to the United States in 1921. They purchased land in South San Francisco in 1940 and for more than forty years made their living farming vegetables, which they sold at a produce market at the same location. The property was sold in 1984 for the South San Francisco BART Station, which opened on June 22, 2003. Across Mission Road, where El Camino High School now stands, the Reichardt Duck Farm operated from 1912 until 1958, when it moved to Petaluma. Today's high-density transit village marks a dramatic transformation from the area's agricultural uses only a few decades earlier.
