Anderson Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area in Fulton County, with a small section in Schuyler County, is an Illinois park and wildlife management area built around a floodplain lake linked to the Illinois River system. Its wetlands, bottomland forest, and two lakes support diverse birdlife, including ducks, bald eagles, pelicans, osprey, hawks, and purple martins. Once a private duck-hunting club, the property was bought by the state in 1947 and has since been managed for conservation and public use. A levee added in 1980 separates Carlson Lake, managed as a seasonal waterfowl refuge, from Anderson Lake, which also supports boating, camping, picnicking, and hunting.
