Jackson’s Mill near Weston, West Virginia, began as part of the Jackson family farm, where Edward Jackson built a frontier log house and established a sawmill and grist mill in 1809. The surviving three-story mill retains much of its original woodwork and machinery, making it an important example of an early mill. It is also significant as the boyhood home of Thomas Jonathan “Stonewall” Jackson, who lived there after being orphaned, worked on the farm, studied largely on his own, and taught school before entering West Point in 1842. Preserved by the state since 1921, the site connects frontier settlement, early industry, and Jackson’s formative years.
