Ingersoll Hall was named in honor of Admiral Royal Eason Ingersoll, Commander in Chief of the United States Atlantic Fleet in World War II. His father was Rear Admiral Royal Rodney Ingersoll, and his son, Lieutenant Royal Rodney Ingersoll II, was killed on board USS Hornet in 1942.
