Historic Deerfield preserves Old Deerfield, Massachusetts, and the wider history of the Connecticut River Valley through a mile-long village streetscape, eleven historic house museums, galleries, and educational programs. Founded by Henry and Helen Flynt after their arrival in 1936, it grew from their collecting and preservation work into a campus of restored and relocated buildings, including the Dwight House and Hall Tavern. Its setting is shaped by Deerfield’s deeper past, from the Pocumtuck homeland to frontier wars and the Queen Anne’s War raid in which more than 100 residents were captured. Its collections also preserve regional arts such as Deerfield’s “White Dove” needlework samplers.
