Windermere Hills is a mountain range in northeastern Nevada, northeast of Wells, in Elko County. Its approved name was formally defined in 1967 for hills bounded by Thousand Springs Creek on the north, the Southern Pacific line on the south, the Union Pacific line on the west, and an unnamed valley on the east. The name was taken from Windermere, a small town in England. In this sparsely settled setting, bordered by rail lines and valleys, the range is one of the many modest uplifts that help form the region’s basin-and-range landscape.
