The Ringling family lived in Baraboo for many years and, of German and French extraction, rose from poverty to wealth while operating their circus from the city. Their closely knit family brought fame and prominence to Baraboo. In addition to the Ringling Bros. Circus, they operated other circuses and enterprises from these quarters.
