Sangamon River State Fish and Wildlife Area is a 127-acre protected tract along the Sangamon River near Cantrall in central Illinois. Formerly known as the Sangamon County Conservation Area and the Sangamon River State Habitat Area, it preserves bluffland, loamy hills, ravines, and riverbank woodland close to the Springfield metropolitan area. Oak and hickory dominate much of the forest, while sycamore and other bottomland softwoods grow along the water. This combination of upland and riverside habitat supports public hunting for deer, turkey, squirrel, woodcock, coyote, fox, rabbit, raccoon, quail, and mourning dove. As of 2022, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources owns it and manages it as part of Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area.
