Bascom School was built in 1927 on the Woodman of the World Campground. Its classic 1920s era design embodies many characteristics of Florida's founding and early development period from 1890 to 1929. The one-story school used locally made bricks and hewn timber, and its notable architectural features include large multipane windows, a gable roof, two front-facing gable extensions, exposed rafter tails, and an offset porch entrance. Originally it had four classrooms and an auditorium with stage. In 1942 the southeast classroom was converted to a lunchroom. Classes were held in the school until 1963, and it served as the town hall until 2001. Alumni and friends preserved the school in 2010. The town of Bascom was a river settlement, a day's horse ride from Neal's Landing on the Chattahoochee River.
