Taylor County was organized on July 3, 1878. Buffalo Gap served as the county seat from Aug. 8, 1878, to Oct. 30, 1883. The first Taylor County courthouse and jail were constructed in 1879, and the Buffalo Gap Museum was founded in 1956.
