The church was organized in 1819, and the first cemetery burial took place that same year. One of the earliest Methodist congregations in the area, it was organized by local preacher Rev. Alexander Faires in a log school built in 1816. Henry Kirkpatrick donated land for the church and cemetery in 1818. Additional land was donated in 1841 by Hiram and Eva Rhodes, and in 1911 and 1914 by John and Amanda Wesson and L.D. Simmons. The first and second structures were destroyed by fires. A frame building was erected in 1885. The first service in the present sanctuary was held on February 6, 1966. The cemetery is listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.
