The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum in Houston, Texas, is devoted to the history and achievements of Buffalo Soldiers and African Americans who served in all branches of the United States military. Founded in 2001 by Captain Paul Matthews, a Vietnam veteran and military historian, it grew from his thirty years of collecting African American military memorabilia, including many items he donated himself. In 2012, the museum moved into a 1925 building that had served as headquarters of the Houston Light Guards, giving it a historic military setting. Open for tours and events, it continues preserving and recognizing the broader legacy of African American military service.
