The Aquarium of the Pacific is a public nonprofit aquarium at Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach, California, opened on June 20, 1998. Focused on the Pacific Ocean, it features three major permanent galleries devoted to Southern California and Baja, the Northern Pacific, and the Tropical Pacific, combining regional marine displays with conservation themes. Its collection includes more than 12,000 animals in habitats ranging from 5,000-gallon exhibits to tanks holding 350,000 gallons, including large habitats for sea lions, sea otters, octopus, birds, rays, and kelp forest species. It is also a major Long Beach civic and educational institution, drawing 1.7 million visitors in 2018.
