Pomeroy Place was William Cooper's wedding gift to his daughter Ann and George Pomeroy, a druggist. Under the east eaves, Federalist stone mason James Allen placed their initials, G.A.P.C. for George, Ann, Pomeroy, and Cooper, beneath a crude eagle. Ann's brother, J. Fenimore Cooper, frequented the house and wrote of Allen as "Scotch Jamie" in Wyandotte. The Cooperstown Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in November, 1980.
