The stable dates from the earliest years of the deBarys’ winter place and appears in an 1882 survey, though it must be older. From the 1870s, the estate relied on horses and mules for trips to local towns, hunting, leisure riding, and managing a far-flung property. Over time, the deBarys added other buildings around the stable and its long equipment shed, including an orange-packing house, a hay barn, and a hangar for the younger deBarys’ airplane. Later owners removed these structures, leaving the stable intact. Today, the building serves as a meeting and reception space while preserving its historic character.
