The OH-6A Light Observation Helicopter entered service in 1965. It weighed 1,975 pounds empty, had a maximum speed of 150 miles per hour, used JP-4 jet fuel, carried a crew of 2, and was armed with a 7.62 millimeter machine gun and a 10 millimeter grenade launcher. This example, serial number 67-16132, was delivered to the army in June 1968 and went directly into action in Vietnam, where its service included two crashes caused by mechanical failures. In September 1970, 16132 was assigned to the Army Aviation School at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where it served for three years before going to Sharpe Army Depot, California, where it remained in storage until mid-1983. It was then transferred to the Utah Army National Guard and served with the Attack Helicopter Troop of the 163rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in West Jordan, Utah, until March 1990.
