Summerville Memorial Stadium was dedicated by the people of the community to the memory of those who gave their lives for their country in World War II: James Wilbur Bazemore, Frederick William Jessen II, Martin Marion Lotz Jr., Paul Kenneth Mellichamp, Nelson W. Moorefield, Henry Wilson Myers, Robert Murray Spriggs, and Edward Randolph Wheler, with Unity for Service National Exchange Club.
