Indian Canyon Ranger Station, in the Duchesne Ranger District of Ashley National Forest near Duchesne, Utah, was built in 1914 by the U.S. Forest Service as a wood-framed guard station during the agency’s early management of remote mountain lands. It is an unusually early survivor of Forest Service development in the region, the oldest surviving ranger station from the original Uinta National Forest, and one of the oldest in Ashley National Forest built specifically to house a ranger. Its importance also reflects the era of isolated ranger service and its distinctive pre-standardized architecture, unmatched among known Forest Service buildings in northern Utah.
