Built in 1916 by H.L. Mobley, a northerner, this hotel was sold in 1919 during Cisco’s great oil boom to Conrad Hilton, then a 32-year-old ex-legislator and banker from New Mexico, becoming the first hotel he owned as he went on to be known as “The World’s Foremost Innkeeper.” On the night of the purchase, Hilton dreamed of Texas wearing a chain of Hilton hotels, and in time reality outran that dream. The hotel remained in use for many years after Hilton sold it in 1925.
