Leavitt Peak is a mountain in California's eastern Sierra Nevada near Sonora Pass, on the boundary of Tuolumne and Mono counties, with the Pacific Crest Trail passing nearby. Its setting offers wide views south toward Yosemite National Park and north toward South Lake Tahoe, and it is now a popular hiking destination. The peak was named for Hiram Leavitt, an early Mono County judge who in 1863 built a hotel, home, and stagecoach station at the east end of Sonora Pass to serve travelers and miners moving between Sonora and Aurora. His name also endures in nearby Leavitt Lake, Leavitt Meadow, and Leavitt Station.
