Enon Baptist Church of Danville was organized in July 1819 as Birdwell's Spring Church, and its name was changed to Enon Baptist Church in September 1835. It is one of the 50 pioneer churches of Alabama. Charter members included Stephen Penn, Mary Penn, John Birdwell, Mary Birdwell, Ezekiel Thomas, Jenny Thomas, George Keys, Elizabeth Keys, and Sarah Simpson. Over the course of its long tenure, the congregation has worshiped in two different locations, the first a few miles south of the present site. Many preachers have been sent from here to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
