Jasper Peak is a mountain near Soudan in northeastern Minnesota whose current name reflects the red jasper bedrock characteristic of the surrounding iron-range landscape. A lookout tower erected by the Minnesota Division of Forestry in 1934 stands on its summit. The mountain was formerly known as Chester Peak for Albert Huntington Chester, a Columbia School of Mines graduate who taught chemistry, mineralogy, and metallurgy at Hamilton College from 1870 to 1891 and later at Rutgers College. His connection to the area came through his survey of the Mesabi and Vermilion Iron Ranges, published in the Eleventh Annual Report of the Minnesota Geological Survey in 1882.
