Clarence C. Haug, a native son of Spillville, Iowa, was born on Aug, 17, 1910, the son of Carl R. and Louise Fisher Haug. He received his early education in Spillville and Decorah, attended U of I, and graduated from the US Military Academy in 1935. He married Carolyn Meyers of Hartland, New York, and they had three children. From 1935 to 1941, his assignments included duty in California, Washington, Cornell Univ in Ithaca, New York, the Engr School at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, Louisiana, and Jamaica, BWI. From 1942 to 1944, he served with OCE Hq SOS in England in the construction of bomber bases. From 1944 to 1945, he served with Omaha Beach Cmd in France and OCE Hq SOS in Paris and Frankfurt. From 1945 to 1953, he served with OCE in Washington, DC, attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, and held assignments with Yuma Test Branch, AR, and as Dist Engr in Sacramento, California. From 1953 to 1955, he was C.O. of the 19th Engr Gp (combat) in Korea and C.O. of the 2nd Amphibian Support Brig in Japan. From 1955 to 1958, he served in the Office of the Asst Sec Army in Washington, DC. From 1958 to 1965, he served with Army ORD Missile Cmd in Huntsville, Alabama, the Army Reorganization Cmte, and Hq Army Material Cmd in Washington, DC. From 1965 to 1968, he was C.G. of the 2nd Logistical Cmd in Okinawa, supporting forces in Vietnam. From 1968 to 1969, he was Div Engr of SW Div in Dallas, Texas. He retired on July 31, 1969, after 34 years of military service, wore 9 overseas bars, and received decorations including 2 DSMs, 3 Legion of Merit, and 1 Commendation Medal. He retired in Spillville and was a life member of American Legion, Clarence Bily Post 467.
