Krassel Ranger Station is a historic Forest Service complex in central Idaho’s Payette National Forest, along the South Fork of the Salmon River west of Yellow Pine. Built beginning in 1937, it served as a remote administrative and residential outpost in a rugged backcountry valley. The complex developed in the late 1930s through United States Forest Service design and Civilian Conservation Corps labor, including a ranger’s residence, warehouse and garage, and a suspension footbridge added in 1941. Later, it incorporated buildings moved from other guard stations. In 1992, the 6.2-acre site was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places as an important surviving example of Forest Service and CCC-era development in Idaho’s backcountry.
