In the early morning of March 2, 1864, after the raid on Richmond, Colonel Ulric Dahlgren, a Federal officer, died three hundred yards north of here when, as his force bivouacked here and was breaking camp, he fell to the fire of Confederate detachments and Home Defense forces that had gathered during the night.
