Fort Scammon, also known as Camp White or Fort Hill, is a Civil War archaeological site in Charleston, West Virginia, on the prominence now called Fort Hill. Its surviving elliptical earthenwork battlements mark a former military position tied to the struggle for control of the area during the war. Confederate artillery fired from these heights in late summer 1862, and after March 1863 Union troops fortified the hilltop, building the earthworks that remain. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, the site preserves a visible trace of wartime defenses above the city.
