In this area stood many outbuildings, barns, the servants' house, and an outhouse, and although most of them survive only as some foundations, they reflect a thriving farm over the years. Many of the surrounding fields were used for farming, and areas along the paths where the trees are smaller in width and height over large stretches of land were most likely fields until well into the 20th century. No pictures remain of the 3 hole outhouse that once stood on the property, but it was probably similar to one at the Buell Mansion on Midline Road in Ballston. At times there was probably more than one outhouse, with one in this area and one nearer the mansion itself. These were more than ordinary privies, as the walls were plastered at some point, reflecting the wealth of some of the property's residents. A photograph of haying the fields at Hawkwood, from the Thuener Family collection, probably dates to the 1920's.
