An Armed Forces Memorial honors the brave men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States of America who served so that every American could live in freedom. It recognizes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine, and praises their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty and country as a memory that will endure forever. Built with private contributions from individuals whose names appear on the memorial, along with friends, relatives, businesses, and organizations, it was dedicated July 4, 1991. Its walls bear a large roll of names, with some identified as missing in action or killed in action, and the project was supported by committee members and by funding from the Mary Chilton Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution through the Mary Chilton DAR Foundation of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
