Minnesota Discovery Center, outside Chisholm in northeastern Minnesota, is a 660-acre museum, research, and park complex devoted to the Iron Range’s history and future. Opened in 1977 as the Iron Range Interpretive Center, later renamed Ironworld USA before taking its current name in 2009, it was created to honor the immigrant communities that built the mining region and to attract visitors. Its exhibits and collections explore labor history, geology, mining, immigration, and industrial culture, while the grounds include historic structures and rail attractions. Built on the old Glen Mine site, it endured serious ground instability yet remained a major regional cultural institution and gathering place.
