Allison Guard Station is a remote Forest Service compound in the Ochoco Mountains of eastern Oregon that began in 1911 as the ranger station for the Snow Mountain Ranger District. Built deep in the forest to support patrols and logistics before roads were well developed, it served as district headquarters until the 1950s, then became a guard station. Its oldest structure, the Donnelly Cabin, was built in 1911 by first ranger E. W. “Cy” Donnelly, while much of the compound’s present character comes from a 1935 Civilian Conservation Corps building campaign. Continued use, restoration, and preservation have made it an unusually intact example of an early remote ranger station.
