Near this spot stood Old Fountain Head Meeting House of the Methodist Episcopal Church, where the Tennessee Conference held its first session in 1812 under the presidency of Bishops Asbury and McKendree. Bishop McKendree later lived and was buried nearby, and his body was afterward moved to the Vanderbilt University campus.
