The low ridge known as Cueloze, Las Humanas, San Buenaventura, and most recently Gran Quivira has a layered and complex 800-year history. Indigenous people lived there in plazas and apartments on the edge of survival, far from other pueblos and in a town with very little water. The ruins include an Indian pueblo dating from circa 1100 to 1670, a later church under construction from 1659 to 1670, and an early church from 1630 to 1670.
