Split Rock was a famous natural landmark used by Indians, trappers, and emigrants on the Oregon Trail. The site of the Split Rock Pony Express of 1860-1861 and a stage and telegraph station is on the south side of the Sweetwater. Split Rock can be seen as a cleft on the Rattlesnake Range.
