This building is the oldest commercial building on Jeff Davis Avenue. Hancock County Bank built it in 1924 as its second branch in Long Beach, primarily to serve the area's growing truck farming industry. Because of the Great Depression, the branch moved to Gulfport in 1933. The city library was located here for a few months in 1939-1940. Southern Star Lodge No. 55 F. & A. M. purchased the building in 1940, and after renovations Masons first met in the new upstairs hall on February 7, 1941. Mrs Minnie Dubuisson, postmaster, rented the building's first floor in 1942 for the Long Beach Post Office, which remained here until 1960. The first home mail deliveries were made from this site in 1947.
