In the early 1900s, several families homesteaded the areas south and west of here: William P. Hunter, Arthur Bryant, Bengt Nelson Jr., Walter Murie, Millard Halterman, Leonard Haight, George Esplin, Joseph Bauer, Carlos Stevens, Ira and John Heaton, and Owen, William, Daniel, and Lorenzo Matheson. Owen drilled the first deep water well for irrigation in Midvalley in 1910.
