Officer Christopher Shane Nicholson, 592, lost his life protecting the community of Smithsburg on December 19, 2007. He is remembered through Jon F. Hooper’s “I Am A Warrior,” which speaks of standing with God, fighting not for glory or fame but for those who cannot, for justice, for the oppressed, and for the downtrodden, and of serving to protect the innocent without fleeing from fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny. The tribute declares justice as a weapon, faith as a shield, and hope as armor, and says that if life is lost for these just causes, there are no regrets, for it is an honor to fight for others and to stand with God. It closes with the words, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.” Matthew 5:9
