The Cold Spring Arch Bridge, built by the California Department of Transportation, was at the time of construction one of the longest steel arch bridges built in the United States and one of the first major arch structures to use all welded steel sections. With its accompanying road realignment, it made travel to and from the City of Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley safer and shorter. George Hood was the senior design engineer, and Mr. Fred Yoshino was the resident engineer during construction. Construction started in June 1962 and was completed in January 1964.
