Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail is a 3.9-mile trail through Hyattsville, Riverdale Park, and College Park that preserves the route of a former streetcar line linking these communities with Washington, D.C. The corridor began as Route 82 of the Washington streetcar network, with sections built in 1899 and 1902 and later extended to Laurel. Streetcar service was gradually reduced, and the last car ran on September 7, 1958, after Congress decided to replace the system with buses. The modern trail opened in stages from 2002 to 2023, ultimately creating a continuous path that serves cyclists and pedestrians while retaining the historic transit alignment.
