At this parting of the ways on the California Trail, the Oregon road climbed the bluff and followed the course of the Snake River, while the California route kept to the left and followed Raft River Creek nearly to its source before crossing the creek and continuing up the bottom, as recalled by Byron McKinstry on Aug. 1, 1850.
