Established in the early 1900s, Creighton and Sons General Store was a Sears building delivered to Coalmont on the “Mountain Goat” train and assembled on site. Owned and operated by three generations, it was first kept by William “Pappy” Creighton until his death in 1945, then run by his son Bob until 1975, and then managed by Bob's son Sam until 2012. The proprietors never sold tobacco or alcohol products, and for almost a century many mountain people sat around the pot-bellied stove there and found celebration and enrichment.
