Sanford, established in 1877, was deeply shaped by Bristol "Cal” Conklin through 55 years of dedication to the city and concern for Seminole County residents. A founding member of CPH, Inc., a local and national architectural and engineering firm that grew into the city’s largest design firm with over 250 employees and 14 offices, he helped bring major benefits to Sanford through transportation projects, parks and trails, critical water and wastewater infrastructure, the creation of Marina Island, and the revitalization of the downtown business district. He also had a lasting impact as an advocate for less fortunate residents, volunteering countless philanthropic hours and supporting efforts to feed, house, and clothe homeless people in Seminole County through organizations including Rescue Outreach Mission, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, Pregnancy Crisis Center, Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center, Habitat for Humanity, Sanford Historic Preservation Board, and many local churches.
