The Union City Heritage Water Trail begins at the J.P. Palmer Launch on the Coldwater River, runs west into the St. Joe River, and ends 5 miles downstream at the Riley Dam on the west end of Union Lake. Created and unveiled as part of the 2016 Sesquicentennial, it was intended as a way to explore the community’s history and river heritage. The route also reflects an earlier era when steamers from Chicago traveled 170 miles up the St. Joe to the village.
