Citizens of Adrian erected this memorial in 1870 in memory of their fallen soldiers, honoring those who served in the Great Struggle of '61-'65 in units including the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 20th, and 26th Michigan Infantry and Cavalry, the 1st Michigan Engineers, the 4th and 6th U.S. Cavalry, the 11th U.S. Infantry, Berdans Sharpshootees, the 61st New York Infantry, the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, the 25th and 47th Ohio Infantry, the 3rd Missouri Infantry, the 8th Pennsylvania Cavalry, the 1st Georgia Infantry, and the 12th Tennessee Cavalry, and naming the men remembered from Adrian.
